Often times what leads a person to therapy is an individual crisis, such as a loss of a relationship, a traumatic event or loss, or problems created by symptoms or symptom use.

Starting therapy takes strength and courage, as it can be hard to acknowledge one's own struggles and commit to addressing them. Often times what leads a person to therapy is an individual crisis, such as a loss of a relationship, a traumatic event or loss, or problems created by symptoms or symptom use.
Dr. Cosgrove believes the therapy process has two steps (which can occur simultaneously). The first step in therapy is to manage the current crisis by developing coping strategies, processing feelings, and addressing ways of thinking that get in the way of being healthy. As the crisis or symptoms become manageable, it is then necessary to engage in self-exploration of one's life history and patterns of being in the world to ensure long-standing change and self-awareness.
Sessions are typically 45 minutes long, but Dr. Cosgrove may adjust the duration based on your needs and circumstances. Clients are usually seen once per week, but frequency can change based on need.
The law protects the relationship between a client and a therapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission. Exceptions include: suspected child abuse or elder abuse and risk to one's self or another. Unless you have otherwise specified, your work and school will not know that you are in therapy.
Please contact Dr. Cosgrove directly for fee information, as she is eager to make therapy affordable and accessible. The group practice she participates in has a subsidy for clients who demonstrate significant financial need.
Dr. Cosgrove is not in-network with any insurance plans, though her group practice does accept Well Fleet.
Dr. Cosgrove will work with out-of-network plans by providing all necessary paperwork and advocating for your reimbursements. Please contact your insurance company to determine the following:
- What is my out-of-network deductible and how much has been met so far?
- How much of the therapy fee will you reimburse? (Ask for both the percentage reimbursed AND what your plan deems as customary and reasonable in our area.)
Dr. Cosgrove requires 48 hours notice to cancel an appointment. She will do her best to reschedule the appointment if requested; however, clients are responsible for the full fee of the session for appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours notice.
